If in the midst of your enjoyment of the world you have a moment, try to help in however small a way those who are downtrodden and those who, for whatever reason, cannot or do not help themselves.
Try not to turn away from those whos appearance is disturbing, from the ragged and unwell.
Try never to think of them as inferior to yourself.
If you can, try not even to think of yourself as better than the humblest beggar.
You will look the same in your grave.
- Dalai Lama
One can solve a problem quickly with force. At the same time, however, such success is often at the expense of the rights and welfare of others.
As a result even though one problem has been resolved, the seed of another has been planted.
There is a certain irrationality in responding to injustice or harm with hostility. Our hatred has no physical effect on our enemies; it does not harm them. Rather, it is we who suffer the ill consequenses of such overwhelming bitterness. It eats us from within. With anger we slowly begin to lose our appetite. We cannot sleep at night and often end up just rolling back and forth, all night long. It affects us profoundly, while our enemies continue along, blissfully unaware of the state we have been reduced to.
